AN UPDATE ON OUR WORK

My name is Greta Neubauer and I am the new director at the Fossil Fuel Divestment Student Network. I’ve been organizing with the DSN since our first meeting, at the 2013 Power Up! Convergence at Swarthmore College. I am deeply humbled to be in this position, and grateful to have the opportunity to continue being part of and building this incredible movement.

I would like to share an update about what we’ve been up to over the past year and where we’re headed. We’ve just completed our first year with paid staff, during which we:

There are many such reviews and recommendations to traders about the binary trading platforms and this is one good way of understanding the market. There cannot be a better way to experience this than getting to know about the same from the traders themselves. Get to know about the Fintech Ltd. Via Top 10 Binary Demo which is a very reliable website.

  • Trained and supported dozens of leaders to run campus divestment campaigns, which included a spring escalation of 25 actions and a number of notable victories, including the University of Massachusetts system

  • Brought students together at trainings, conferences, and demonstrations to build towards shared campaigning with leaders in the movements for racial, social, and economic justice

  • Began supporting 6 campaigns to integrate reinvestment into their divestment campaigns

Our movement has won incredible victories in the past few years. We’ve changed the story about the role of the fossil fuel industry in our society and trained a generation of organizers. Divestment is now politically feasible for an ever-growing number of institutions.

We believe the Paris Climate Agreement signifies that the era of fossil fuels is coming to a close, but know that the battle is far from over. We are not content with letting the energy of the divestment movement dissipate – we are determined to channel it into the next phase of our work.

We are close to completing our 3 year strategy planning process and have aligned around the core challenge we exist to solve, our purpose and the way we believe we’ll get there. We understand this moment to be a critical one, in which the path to the next economy will be determined. We know if we don’t contest, this transition will not be rooted in justice. We enter into the new school year with an incredible staff that will support campuses across the country to run strategic divestment and reinvestment campaigns to build popular support for a just transition and move money into community-owned solutions to the climate crisis.

DSN staff and Long Term Strategy team at our July meeting

We’ve been able to reach this place because of the absolutely incalculable amount of labor that many, many people have poured into this organization over the past three years. We have a lot of people to thank, from the first cohort that sat on the floor at Swarthmore and schemed, to the leaders of each iteration of this organization and each campus campaign, to the funders who have given generously to allow us to solidify the DSN as a strong and growing organization, to the movement mentors who have supported and nudged us through strategic and less strategic moments. We are so grateful to Yotam Marom and the Wildfire Project for the love and tremendous support in developing our long term strategy. We want to thank 350.org and the Responsible Endowments Coalition for supporting us to grow up alongside you over the past few years. We also want to thank Will Lawrence and Jason Schwartz, who were part of our staff this past year and are now moving on to other movement work. We know that we stand on all of your shoulders, and we are grateful for such shoulders to stand on.

We enter this academic year with a deep understanding of the potential of this moment. We are training leaders, we’re building a movement. We are and will continue to make things better.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

To a year of beautiful action,

Greta

EVA RESNICK-DAY, UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH ’12

The trading market online is loaded with trading applications and software and it sometimes becomes very difficult for the traders to make a choice between the most reliable ones. Each one has something unique to be offered to the traders and it is this rush and competition for satisfying the traders that keep this market a highly demanded one. Yes, the number of traders every day is raging and the number of platforms for accommodating this soaring number is actually less.

Qprofit system is a newly established binary options trading platform in the market that has been designed and made to operate in the market with the only intention of helping the traders earn a profit. This is probably the only reason for why people trade here spending all their money in the name of investments. And hence the expectations of the traders are also high expecting every new system to offer them a higher rate of return. Of course, working with the Qprofit system would definitely entice the customer because the rates are a little high and the trader is sure to make a profit here at least in one among the many trades per day. https://top10binarydemo.com/review/qprofit-system/

Though the number of trades per day is limited, if traded wisely, the trader is sure to make riches here for the opportunities presented to the traders are more. And hence it is important that the traders use some wise and smart strategies in placing their trades online to make these opportunities a positive one for them.

Features

There is nothing specific about the features presented by this cryptocurrency trading platform. All the basic features are all the same as any other binary trading platform with the only difference that the type of currency used is cryptocurrency. An initial deposit amount of $250 would gain a trader an easy entry into the system for further trading. Apart from this, there are no special charges or fee demanded from the traders for any other purpose because the entire trading happens and is completely taken care by the software with just the trades trialed on the amount invested by the trader.

Yes, so the traders will not be demanded anything extra apart from the regular deposit amount that gets paid at the beginning. The brokers who work online assisting the traders through the entire trade process also do not charge anything in the name of commission or fee for the services offered by them.

We’ve petitioned. We’ve met with our administrators. We’ve demonstrated our power through rallies and marches. Last spring we experienced a wave of actions in divestment campaigns across the country — from sit-ins to teach-ins, from blockades to breakfast actions — in which students asked their administrators and the public: whose side are you on? Our actions forced people to make a choice: to side with the perpetrators of the climate crisis and injustice, or with the students, faculty, and alumni they claim to support.

The outcomes and the experiences of many traders is a big learning for the others, especially those who are new to this market. It is advised and recommended that every trader tries to understand this market and its players properly before making an entry here because it is important to understand and know the basic principles. Ethereum Code is a very reliable crypto trading platform which has actually been a very beneficial trading for many traders.  This is a new entrant with a new approach; yes, it allows trades using cryptocurrencies which is a very new concept and even now we have traders who are unaware of this and they try to stay away from this types of trading because they know nothing about this

This spring, we are taking our campaigns, and our movement, to the next level by calling out the conflicts of interest that are present on our school’s Boards. Just as the fossil fuel industry has held back meaningful climate action at the highest levels of our government, personal ties to the fossil fuel industry are holding back our colleges and universities from taking the powerful action needed for us to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. That’s why, this April, students from across the country will be taking action to demand that institutions of higher learning stand on the right side of history and choose our futures over their ties to this destructive and outdated industry. We are drawing a line in the sand and demanding that administrators lead with us by standing against the fossil fuel interests that have clouded their judgment for so long, and with the students and communities bearing the brunt of the climate crisis.

We are proving that Youth > Fossil Fuels. Lead with us. Invest in the fossil fuel divestment movement.

ARE YOU IN THIS FOR THE LONG HAUL? TAKE THE ORGANIZING PLEDGE.

WHO WE ARE:

We are building a movement to dismantle the power of the fossil fuel industry, halt climate crisis, and fuel a just transition to a more equitable and sustainable economy that extends beyond the boundaries of the college campus. The crises we face demand that we win campaigns for divestment on campus, and continue to build power long term. While our targets expect our movement to lose momentum as student organizers graduate, through the Long Haul Initiative (LHI), we’re proving them wrong.

The Long Haul Initiative is a program of the Divestment Student Network dedicated to cultivating collective commitment to long haul organizing throughout our network, and enabling the ongoing engagement of our leaders after they leave school.  We recognize that organizing after college is not a conventional, or easy decision to make. We are developing a variety of projects to break down the barriers restricting folks from organizing post-college, supporting leaders to develop the skills to continue movement work, leveraging alumni power to strengthen student campaigns, and building bridges to off-campus climate justice work.

Rather than diminishing in power as student organizers graduate, our movement is growing exponentially stronger as student leaders become movement organizers for the long-haul.

For any new act, it is important that we get proper guidance and support in taking our actions and efforts to the next level. Similarly, for trading, it is important that we get a proper support and this is possible from the Cyber Mentors website which acts as a complete guide for all traders, both new and experienced players.

Want to join the LHI? Fill out the form below or contact us at longhaulinitiative@gmail.com.

Check out our Principles for more insight into what we believe and how we organize.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

1) SOLIDARITY HOUSING

Resourcing our work is one of the greatest challenges of organizing.  Solidarity Housing is connecting DSN organizers with movement supporters who can offer free or low-cost housing to break down some of the financial barriers our organizers experience post-college.  We are developing networks of potential hosts across the country and brainstorming possibilities for other forms of low-cost movement housing. Contact Lina Blount at lblount1@gmail.com to join the Solidarity Housing team.

2) CAMPUS CAMPAIGN SUPPORT

As the movement for fossil fuel divestment grows across the country, more and more campaigns need support developing organizing skills and building effective strategy.  The Long Haul Initiative is working with leaders in the DSN Regional Networks, 350.org and Responsible Endowments Coalition staff to support alumni to become coaches for campus campaigns and connect them to campaigns in need of support. If you are an alum who’s interested in doing campaign coaching, contact Michaela at ms2932@nau.edu.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

We invite all post-college folks and current students who have been involved in student divestment organizing to join the LHI. Fill out the form below to stay in the loop through our email list! Please contact us with any questions at longhaulinitiative@gmail.com.

ESCALATION PLEDGE

We’ve petitioned. We’ve met with our leaders. We’ve demonstrated our power through rallies and marches. This spring, we are taking the next step to ask our administrators, “Whose Side Are You On?”
Will they side with the fossil fuel industry that drives climate change and injustice, or with the students who envision a better world, and have the courage to build it? There is no middle ground.
Hundreds of students nationwide have pledged this spring to take nonviolent direct action–risking arrest if need be–to thrust their campaigns to victory.

The trading field is very risky especially when you are here for the first time with loads and loads of dreams and ambitions. This is a highly unpredictable field wherein no person can be sure of either making a profit or a loss. Not even the professional and the highly experienced traders will be able to predict the market because market conditions change and there are all chances for a particular trade to take the reverse side too. So it is very essential for every trader to play very safely here.

Trading on cryptocurrencies is a new trend here. Yes, every trader expects something and interesting to be offered to him apart from the features and benefits and this new trend of trade using cryptocurrency has not failed to entice the traders. This is nothing different but the same like those traded using the normal currencies. They are very safe and the best part is they cannot be faked or reversed. So traders can start making their investments and bets on assets using this for this is just different by name but functions the same as the normal currencies.

There are many cryptocurrency trading systems on the market these days and it was mainly after the advent of the Ethereum code which was the first one to make its daring entry for trading using cryptocurrency. Now, this has become another very common and popular option for traders. The features and benefits promised by different cryptocurrency trading robot might slightly vary but they operate on the same principles and platform.

Some will occupy administrative buildings, some will stage blockades and sit-ins, some will drop banners, but all will disrupt the unconscionable status quo of inaction. Every administrator and observer will have a choice. Whose side are they on? The world, and history, will be watching.
SIGN THE PLEDGE to join with students around the country in escalated action this spring, and take a look at this Divestment Escalation Toolkit for action and messaging inspiration.

Butts on the Floor

What does institutional power really look like? As student divestment activists we lobby our colleges to get them to activate their institutional leverage on behalf of people and planet, but when do we get a glimpse of this force?

What is it to be a professional trader online? Are there advantages in playing these roles especially while working with some reliable trading platforms like the Qprofit system? Will the traders be really benefitted and will they be able to fulfill their profit dreams? This post talks in detail about the Qprofit system and its intentions.

I believe I caught a peak last Friday. On that day at noon, 272 Whitman College students, faculty, and alums took seats on the well-carpeted floor of Memorial Hall. On the mezzanine outside of conference room 321 where the Trustees had been seated in leather office chairs, the group settled in for their hour-long occupation. These 272 of all different sizes persuasions, sitting close together in this gilded hall (right beneath our campus’s ivory-white clock tower I kid you not) were to me a breathing portrait of an institution mobilized, and a constituency ready to act together.

Behind the doors of room 321 were also three members of student government lead by senior and President Tatiana Kaehler. Tatiana would have 15 minutes to present two pieces of divestment legislation on behalf of the Divest Whitman campaign and their legion of supporters ensconced outside, and ask the trustees for a timely response to the demands of those documents. As usual, the board’s functioning was kept pretty opaque in the lead up to this action and there was no way to know whether or not we would have a response by the end of the hour. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of our sitters in the least. 23 boxes of pizza provided by a generous alumni supporter fed the crowd, and 3 different student photographers captured the scene from all angles. About twenty minutes in, it became clear that those taking part in the sit-in weren’t there just to see the trustees emerge from their room and address the crowd. Instead, those sitting in were there to say that this characteristic unresponsiveness would be no longer acceptable. Their presence marked the beginning of a new wave of campus action that will make itself heard, felt, and seen until it is met with commensurate attention from higher-ups.

We might not hear from our board in response to our legislation until fall 2015, and they will most likely decline to take the serious action that the campus they supposedly steward is demanding. But they also won’t be able to huddle in inaction forever. The Whitman College community has been mobilized, and we will sit, stand, shout, and speak for however long it takes to get our school on the right side of history. This is what our record-breaking action showed me. That is why I know what institutional power looks like—it’s not the ominous ivory tower; it’s the sea of people crowded beneath it who put their butts on the floor for climate justice.

TUFTS CLIMATE ACTION SITS IN!

Three days ago, 33 Tufts students and alumni of Tufts Climate Action began a sit-in in President Monaco’s office.

After three years of campaigning, we are here to demand that Tufts divest its 80 million dollars in fossil fuels, an industry that will cause 100 million deaths worldwide by 2030 from climate devastation and pollution. These casualties are and will continue to be in predominantly low-income areas and communities of color that are already fighting for their lives.

For those who are just joining us: we are not sitting in because it’s fun. We are doing this because we have been left no other option for meaningful dialogue on divestment. We started this campaign back in September of 2012, and have attempted to work through every possible administrative channel. First, we showed popular support with a student referendum in which 74% of voters favored divestment. In tandem, the Tufts student senate passed a divestment resolution 24 to 1. We then tried contacting President Monaco and the Tufts Board of Trustees to discuss divestment, but we were met with closed doors, and unanswered emails and phone calls. After continuing this pressure, President Monaco finally established a working group to “examine divestment”. But the administration set this committee up to fail. They staffed it with financial advisers whose inflexible, profit-over-everything investment plan refuses to weigh moral costs of fossil fuel investments.  They did not allow us to bring in unbiased financial experts, nor did they allow us to make public the findings of the committee. Instead of honestly investigating the feasibility of divestment, the administrators on the Investment Committee went into the process trying to disprove divestment from the beginning and set up their findings to do just that.

So here we sit, a year later, in President Monaco’s office, refusing to let the administration stonewall us yet again. By investing in fossil fuels, Tufts continues to profit from the exploitation and devastation of the people who did the least to cause the climate crisis — mostly low-income communities of color around the world, who are already struggling for survival. As the climate crisis worsens each day, whose side will Tufts be on? That of the fossil fuel industry, or that of climate justice and the renewable energy future that we need? We vote with our 1.6 billion dollar endowment . We cannot claim to stand for global “active citizenship” with one hand, while profiting off global climate chaos with the other.

We know we are on the right side of history, and that Board Chairman Peter Dolan, President Monaco and the Tufts administration can never justify profiting off of climate injustice. Yet, instead of facing the realities of their immoral investments, the administration is refusing our ask for a public dialogue with Chairman Peter Dolan and the Board, and our request to continue negotiations on divestment. President Monaco has refused to come back to his own office and meet with us, despite being on campus. Our administration has told us that if we are to have any form of communication with the Board, it won’t happen until next semester; yet every day that goes by, the urgency and suffering caused by climate change increases. They told us yesterday they would not be allowing any food into the building. The administration’s response to students who are simply asking for an endowment that doesn’t destroy communities, our future and our planet, is unjustified and shameful.

Tufts has said it “will not divest at this time.”  If not now, then when? How many extreme weather events and deaths that we are endorsing with our investments will it take for us to take a stand against the fossil fuel industry? Divestment can be done – we know dozens of other institutions and corporations that have commingled endowment funds similar to Tufts that have begun the process of divestment, such as University of Syracuse, the city of Seattle, the University of Maine system, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Meanwhile, the one million dollar Sustainability Fund that Tufts set up last year to appease us is a meager 0.05% of our endowment. In short, Tufts is not doing what it has the power and responsibility to do to address the greatest threat our world has ever faced.

That is why we are sitting in President Monaco’s office, refusing to leave until our food runs out and we are forced to go. We invite all those who share our wonderful city of Boston, along with those across the world, to join this growing movement. Join us in solidarity with those resisting at the front-lines of climate injustice and help make sure that Tufts ends up on the right side of history.

We will continue this fight, only growing stronger, to demand divestment of our school, and that Tufts lives up to its values and stops actively supporting the devastation of the earth and its inhabitants.
